Our Sport Turf team are on hand to help sports facilities managers across Scotland with annual maintenance services and one-off site visits to ensure their grounds and courses are in the best condition. We look after a broad range of sports surfaces, including prestigious golf courses, rugby, cricket and football pitches, bowling greens, and school and college sports grounds, bringing over 40 years’ experience to each project.
From restoration and repair of turf to delivering the best turf finish, we will work with you to look after and bring out the best in your sports turf. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all service and pride ourselves on our professional and friendly approach to every customer.
We offer an annual scheduled turf maintenance service, including aeration, seeding, feeding, line marking and grass cutting, tailored to individual customer needs. With regular visits throughout the year, we can work with you to keep your grounds healthy, resilient and in good playing condition.
Our maintenance service is built round your specific requirements. We carry out an initial site visit to discuss your needs and budget, and then construct a tailored package and schedule for you.
We offer a range of one-off turf treatments to repair and improve grounds, including:
Aeration is vital for healthy turf. By making small holes in the ground, you help improve drainage, air circulation and the uptake of nutrients for your grass. We offer different types of aeration treatments, depending on your needs:
· Solid tines: Using a Toro Procore aeration machine, we drive multiple solid metal spikes into the ground to create small aeration holes. This is used for areas purely needing aeration, and we achieve this by punching multiples holes close together.
· Hollow tines: We can also use the Toro Procore machine with hollow tines. These are designed to remove multiple soil cores from the designated area, bringing out dead organic matter and/or polluted soils.
· Verti Drain: This is a traditional method aeration that involves the machine punching multiple holes across the designated area. This machine is tractor mounted and the operation is predominantly done on football and rugby pitches or in close season for golf and bowling.
· Air2G2 air injection: This is a modern form of aeration designed to aerate with maximum benefit but with zero surface disruption. The machine drives 3 probes into the ground and then uses compressed air to blast out aeration fissures in the soil. A major benefit is the resulting surface finish compared to more traditional forms of aeration, which leaves thousands of holes across
the surface. In contrast, the Air2G2 leaves just 3 tiny holes between 1 and 2 metres apart after each injection which allows aeration throughout the playing season.
Overseeding is the process of planting new seed into the earth. This is done for various reasons.
· To help with turf recovery on damaged areas like worn-out grass paths
· To help thicken up grass sports surfaces such as golf greens, bowling greens, and football and rugby pitches
· To help replace or introduce different grass species to any grassed area
We can target specific areas for repair or improvement for you, as well advising on the best options for your specific needs. We use a Vredo Disc seeder, which can facilitate all types of grass seed and is accurate and versatile enough to deal with all types of sportsgrounds.
Scarifying is the process of using a machine with multiple blades close together and slicing in a vertical motion. This rips out most dead organic matter from the designated area.
We can carry out scarification at a depth range between 1mm and 30mm for you, and it can be done to improve most grass areas, lawns, golf courses, bowling greens, and football and rugby pitches.
Your sports turf may need preventative treatments such as selective weedkillers or fungicides, or feeding treatments such as liquid fertilisers. Both are carried out through spraying, and we use a vehicular mounted sprayer for large areas such as football and rugby pitches, golf greens and large amenity lawns, and a pedestrian sprayer for smaller areas such as bowling greens and smaller lawns.
Top dressing is the process of spreading an additional layer of sandy or loam mix onto the turf to improve the soil, even out the surface, help germination of overseeding or help control lawn thatch.
We have specialist top dressers, both vehicular mounted and pedestrian, and so can cover both larger areas such as football or rugby pitches and large amenity lawns, and smaller areas like bowling greens.
