Underground Drainage Solutions – Kingsknowe Golf Club

Client: Kingsknowe Golf Club, Edinburgh

Objective

When Kingsknowe Golf Club approached Logan Bruce, they were experiencing persistent flooding at a clean-down area adjacent to their clubhouse. The issue was particularly disruptive during periods of heavy rainfall, impacting both operations and visitor experience.

Following initial investigations and a drainage survey provided by the client, the root cause was identified as a fault within the underground drainage network. Logan Bruce was appointed to deliver a full solution — not just resolving the drainage issue but improving the overall surface finish of the area.

Challenges

Delivering construction works within a live golf club environment presented several complexities:

  • Working adjacent to an operational clubhouse and busy car park
  • Minimising disruption to members, visitors, and facilities
  • Navigating existing underground services
  • Managing works during cold weather conditions affecting materials and curing

Solution

A carefully planned and collaborative approach ensured the underground drainage project was delivered safely and efficiently:

  • Targeted excavation and replacement of a 13m section of faulty drainage
  • Installation of new uPVC drainage, fully integrated with the existing system
  • Use of safe digging practices, including CAT & Genny surveys, trial holes, and hand excavation near services
  • Close coordination with the client, including agreeing shutdown periods and final surface finishes
  • Secure site setup with clear segregation to protect members and visitors

Health, Safety & Quality

Safety and quality were central throughout the project:

  • Zero harm approach with no incidents or service strikes
  • Full compliance with RAMS and daily toolbox talks
  • Continuous supervision and quality checks at every stage of the underground drainage project
  • Strict PPE adherence and site inductions for all personnel
  • Ongoing communication and daily briefings to maintain safety and programme alignment

To enhance the finished area, a specialist resin bound surface was installed — combining durability with a high-quality aesthetic chosen in collaboration with the client.

Benefits

The project delivered both immediate and long-term value:

  • Flooding issue fully resolved with improved drainage performance
  • Installation of a durable, visually appealing resin bound surface
  • Works completed on time and with minimal disruption
  • Positive feedback from the club committee and members

Key Achievements

  • Safe delivery within a live operational environment
  • Permanent resolution to a long-standing drainage network issue
  • High-quality finish meeting both functional and aesthetic goals
  • Strong demonstration of Logan Bruce’s commitment to safety, communication, and workmanship
