
A Solar Plant appointed Logan Bruce to deliver the complete fencing installation package for the plant — a 30.07 MWp solar energy facility located in the heart of Fife, Scotland. The scope encompasses the design, supply, and installation of a permanent perimeter deer fence and a temporary Health & Safety (H&S) fence across four land plots with a combined perimeter exceeding 5,958 metres and a total site area of 386,270 m².
The fencing works form a critical enabling package within the wider solar development, required to secure the site perimeter ahead of the main solar installation programme whilst simultaneously protecting construction personnel from high-voltage infrastructure present within the plant boundary. Works are ongoing and are scheduled for completion in July 2026.

Logan Bruce implemented a controlled plant movement strategy, routing machinery along designated access corridors to limit ground disturbance on agricultural land during the wet March 2026 conditions. Temporary trackway was deployed at key crossing points to protect the ground surface and maintain safe access for excavator-mounted post drivers throughout the installation phase.
The permanent deer fence was specified and constructed to BS 1722, with HT13/190/15 high-tensile galvanised mesh selected to meet both the structural demands of the terrain and the C3 corrosion environment. No cantilever, overhang, or barbed wire elements were incorporated, in keeping with the client’s specification and environmental best practice. Post and strainer positions were surveyed and set out to accommodate gradient changes, ensuring consistent mesh tension across the full 5,958-metre perimeter.
Mammal gates (20 × 20 cm) were integrated into the fence line at 150-metre intervals, allowing smaller native mammals to move freely through the site boundary. This approach satisfied the projects biodiversity net gain commitments without any compromise to the primary deer-exclusion function, and was coordinated with the project ecologist prior to installation.
The temporary H&S fencing system was designed and installed in strict compliance with applicable Health & Safety regulations, establishing clearly defined exclusion zones around all live electrical infrastructure within the plant. The safety management framework governed the interface between Logan Bruce’s fencing operatives and other contractors working in proximity to energised equipment, with exclusion zones maintained and monitored throughout the construction programme.
Works across the four plots were sequenced to prioritise the largest perimeter areas, enabling the solar installation contractor to take early possession of secured zones. Regular programme reviews ensured resource levels were adjusted as ground conditions evolved and construction activity on adjacent packages progressed.
